TTAIFA supports
Day of Common
Concern

On November 1st 2008 TTAIFA hosted its first massive
walk-a-thon to support a Caribbean initiative of our mother
organization
CARAIFA called the “Day of Common Concern” this day –
October 31st has been chosen as the day to host charitable
affairs in all the member territories throughout the
Caribbean to highlight in the main kidney disease awareness.
In Trinidad & Tobago we chose to focus on the good work
taking place at the Renal Care Centre in Trinidad & Tobago
and also the work being done by our umbrella association
CARAIFA throughout the member territories in the Caribbean.
We recognize that kidney disease is on the rise in the
Caribbean and citizens’ becoming aware of this growing
illness is paramount.
See leaflet on kidney disease here.
In an effort to give back to our society in a tangible
way the idea of a walk-a-thon involving companies from all
sectors came into being. The theme used was “Positioned for
healthy living”.
Donations from the proceeds of this event went to our
mother organization and to the Renal Care Centre of Trinidad
z& Tobago.
In the picture above, President Fabian Carew presented a
cheque to Mr. Chan Maharaj of the Renal Care Centre while
Mrs. Patricia Ramoutar - Chairperson of the Day of Common
Concern Committee looks on.
In 2009 the event would take place in similar fashion
with the incorporation of the Scouts, Cadets, Girl Guides,
Brownies etc partnering with us. We look forward to greater
success this time around. |
